??????????????????????Welcome to the website of the Council for British Archaeology South-East. We support every aspect of archaeology across Kent, Sussex and Surrey, and our primary aim is to ensure that the cultural heritage of South-East Britain can be enjoyed and acknowledged by everybody.

To find out more about who we are and what we do, please explore this website at your leisure and find out what is on offer for you.

With the Covid-19 pandemic currently on the wane, we returned to in-person events with the annual conference in November.   The latest information on events may be found in the current edition of the E-letter

CBA SE Grants News

From August 2022 there was a change to the reviewing of CBA South East Grant applications. New applications will now be considered only at meetings held twice a year, in October and April. Applications should be submitted to the CBASE by either the 1st October or 1st April for consideration.

There is no change to the type of applications that can be submitted. All applications will be considered by the CBA South East committee.

Over the past 24 years the CBA South East has given grants to a variety of projects. Community and school projects, along with the Young Archaeologists Club (YAC), have been well supported.   Other grants have been given towards excavations, where volunteers and training has been an important aspect.   The publication of reports and help with specialist research has also benefited from CBASE support.   Applications which have not been supported include help with student fees and a study tour of the Mediterranean.

AGM 2024

Our AGM was held on Tuesday 13th February at 19:00, following a presentation by Trevor Creighton, Project Archaeologist at Butser Ancient Farm, and Sue Webber, who has also worked on projects there, with the title “Installing a mosaic floor at Butser Ancient Farm”, about the project to install a mosaic floor at the Butser Ancient Farm’s Sparsholt Villa reconstruction.  The mosaic was closely based upon the original Sparsholt reception room mosaic.

Proposed changes to our Constitution, the Chair’s report and Treasurer statement were all accepted.   The acceptance of Trustee positions was equally proposed and approved (see the revised Committee list).
